Madeleine was my grandmother, a beautiful woman born in 1899 in St. Laureins, Belgium. She immigrated to the United States when she was just 13 years old. When I was a child she lived next door and I spent countless hours in her kitchen learning to sew and crochet, playing with my Christmas presents way before it was Christmas, sitting at her dressing table experimenting with her makeup and trying on her large and magnificent hats, and snuggling in her bed under the most lovely satin quilt that I still have today. Madeleine’s Loft is named in her honor. It’s a place where you can buy some of my favorite things that I have painted, collected, or simply purchased for your pleasure.
